PLink Display Problems

If PLinks in Practice Partner look like this:

«PLINK2:CT of Head|P:\PPImages\030405\scan0003.tif»

or

««PLINK2:CT of Head|P:\PPImages\030405\scan0003.tif»»

rather than this:

CT of Head,

in Patient Records, go to Maintenance, Configuration, Special Features, Records 2 tab, and uncheck “Show Label Markers and Dot Codes when adding or editing notes.”  If this does not correct the problem, in Quick Doc Coder select View, Options, and click Patient Records Version 8.1.2 and later, then OK.  Then scan and code and load 1 or 2 notes to verify that the settings are working.

Documents not Opening in Practice Partner™ Browser

If PLinked documents open in a program other than the Browser or don’t open at all, you may not have the plug-in required by your image file type.  Use Acrobat Reader version 6.0.1 (Important:  do not use v. 7.0) for pdf’s and Alternatiff for tif’s).  The plug-ins are free downloads.

Broken Links

If a clicking a PLink brings up a browser, but does not display the document, first check the path to the document that is displayed in the browser.  If it contains administrative shares (dollar signs, eg. C$, or P$) the PLinks will only work if you are logged in as Administrator.  Be sure to run Quick Doc Coder as a regular user or if running as Administrator, don’t navigate to the document folder using administrative shares.  Also do not move or delete document files after they have been PLinked.  If a document is moved, use Windows Search to find it, and move it back to the folder displayed in the browser.

Word-Wrap Problems

When loading scanned, OCR’d text documents, the note may display in Patient Records with short lines alternating with long lines like this:

This is a long line that is part of a progress note.  It looks OK, but it is followed by a

short line

And then we have another long line.  This is really hard to read since it will continue

like this.

This occurred because after OCR, the file was saved as a text file with hard carriage returns.  To prevent this, make sure that the file is saved as plain ASCII text without formatting.

            Import Patient List Problems

If the Import Patient List function does not work properly, it is most likely because of a bad line in the Patient Inquiry (.inq) or Data Export file.  To check this, open the file in Notepad and check for any lines that are not formatted properly and correct or delete them.  Patient Inquiry files look like this:

"6396.0     ","ADAMS         ","JOHN Q       "

or

"6396.0","ADAMS                             ","JOHN                 "

Data Export files look like this:

"6396.0 ",13,"JOHN"," ADAMS","M",10241989,45,"123 Oak Drive","","","York","PA","17402","(717)555-1111","","","202-26-8565"

Text Data Loader Problems

If you select your text file or PLink file and click the "LOAD" button and get an immediate message "File Not Found," this is usually due to the path being too long.  The solution is to put the text files in a folder with a shorter path like C:\scanning\093005.txt.

The Text Data Loader in Patient Records v. 8.1 is very unreliable.  It loads a few reports then kicks you out.  It also creates a lot of empty notes.  This is fixed in 8.2 (7.6 is ok also).

Known issues (updated 01/30/06)

These are known issues and workarounds.  They will be fixed in upcoming release.

Version 1.0.8:  Adding new Report Type on-the-fly produces improper .K: line

Adding a new Report  Type on-the-fly sometimes produces an improper .K: line containing the Report Type, rather than the Chart Section name.  Until this is fixed, a workaround is the following:  After adding the new Report, tab or click out of the Report Type box, then back in it, then out again.  This will update the Chart Section assigned to the new Report Type, and the .K: Line will be correct.

Add PLink button does not work when coding PDFs (Adobe Reader 7.0 Issue)

Adobe Reader 7.0 does not work properly in the Quick Doc Coder's browser.  It does not allow you to advance to the next document.  Uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0 and then download and install Adobe Reader 6.0.1.  To download it, go to adobe.com and click on the "Get Acrobat Reader" icon, then click the link to "Choose a different version."  Pick version 6.0.1.
